Rigid Inflatable Boats - Zodiacs

In Antarctica, Zodiacs are used for transferring you ashore, for taking you ocean-level cruising among icebergs, whales and other wildlife as well as visiting remote sites that are accessible only by Zodiac. Basically, they allow you to experience areas where bigger vessels cannot.

A Zodiac consists of independent inflatable chambers which allow it to stay afloat if one, or even two, were to deflate. Its semi-rigid flooring makes it a stable, safe and comfortable method of transporting and exploring and their flat bottom design permits the craft to land directly onto the cobble and ice-strewn beaches. Most Zodiacs use a 60 or 90 horsepower engine, depending on their size, which gives plenty of torque while maintaining low emissions and noise pollution.

Fun Fact: While many people tend to use the word “Zodiac” as a generic name for a rigid inflatable pontoon-style boat, it’s actually a proprietary brand name of a company that makes this style of boat.
